WHO IS NORMAN FOSTER?
Born in England on June 1, 1935, Norman Foster studied architecture at the University of Manchester and completed his master's degree at Yale University. Influenced by nature and different ethnic architectures, Foster believed that quality is created by combining materials, and he blended materials, making extensive use of glass in his buildings. Norman Foster, who has a modernist architectural approach, is known for his high-tech architecture and sustainable design. We would like to mention some of these awards: the Royal Gold Medal in 1983, the French Academy of Architecture Gold Medal in 1991, the American Institute of Architects Architecture Gold Medal in 1994, and the 21st Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1999. He also received the Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in 2007 to honor his contributions to the development of high-rise buildings.
30 ST MARY AXE
One of Norman Foster's most famous works, 30 St Mary Axe is a skyscraper located in London. A prime example of the city and contemporary architecture, the building was constructed in 2004. The 41-story skyscraper utilizes steel and glass in its construction. Popular worldwide, it is a revolutionary structural system that utilizes all the possibilities offered by technology down to the smallest detail.
HEARST TOWER
Norman Foster designed a 42-story tower reaching 182 meters above the protected 6-story structure. An award-winning building, one of the most important features of the Hearst Tower is its triangular exterior cladding supported by a diagrid system. This application resulted in a 20% saving in rebar compared to the normal amount. It also holds the title of being the "first green multi-story office building" designed in New York City.
REICHESHOG DOME
Norman Foster is the architect of the glass dome of this structure, which symbolizes the reunification of Germany. Energy efficiency principles are evident in its design.
