ARMADA COMPLEX: ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY OF SHOPPING MALL, SOCIAL AREAS AND PLAZA BUILDINGS

ARMADA COMPLEX: ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY OF SHOPPING MALL, SOCIAL AREAS AND PLAZA BUILDINGS

This week, as T-COD Architecture, we present to you through the architectural character of Armada, one of the important urban centers of Ankara; We would like to talk about how shopping mall, social area and plaza designs together create a holistic spatial experience. Today, when urban life is accelerating and user needs are diversifying; The correct construction of these three functions in a single building complex is of great importance in terms of both social interaction and commercial efficiency.

1. Armada's Urban Location and Architectural Approach Due to its axis, Armada serves not only as a shopping mall but also as an urban transition point. The architectural approach designed in this region surrounded by business centers is based on a mixed-use scenario that can manage user density and respond to different user types at different times of the day. The elements that designers pay most attention to in this type of complexes are: Flow setup: The morning rush of the Plaza employees, the daily circulation of the shopping mall users and the pedestrian movement in the social areas should be blended in the same system. Visual continuity: In order to avoid disconnection between different functions, the use of common architectural language, materials and light must be balanced. Climatic comfort: Especially in Ankara's climate, wind corridors, shading and the design of semi-open spaces are of great importance.

2. Shopping Mall Architecture: Experience-Oriented New Approach The shopping mall design approach in Armada has evolved from classical retail circulation to an experience-centered structure. As in modern shopping malls, here too: Controlled use of natural light increases visitors' attachment to the place. Wide interior streets and hollow floor layouts transform the space into a more breathing structure. The integration of restaurant and cafe areas with the outside supports the culture of socialization. Today, shopping malls are not just closed boxes for shopping; They are becoming social platforms where users want to spend time. For this reason, food and beverage areas, event halls and rest points become important parts of the architectural identity.

3. Architectural Role of Social Areas One of the most characteristic parts of Armada is the setup of its social areas. These areas, which bring together both plaza and shopping mall users on a common ground, serve as breathing points of the building complex. When designing these areas: Urban open space – semi-open space – closed space continuity is ensured. Especially for office workers, "breakaway areas" and "short rest stops" are created for shopping mall users. This diversity of social areas transforms the complex from a purely commercial structure into a cultural meeting point.

4. Plaza Structures: Transparency, Flow and Working Comfort Armada's plaza section offers a design based on transparency, sustainability and employee ergonomics, which are the basic principles of today's office architecture. The prominent architectural elements in this context are: Thanks to glass facade systems, natural light is used at the maximum level. Modular planning creates offices that can quickly adapt to the changing needs of companies. Optimizing vertical circulation creates a seamless flow between the entrance reception and office floors. Thanks to its plaza design, social area and relationship with the shopping mall, it enables employees to meet all their needs during the day within walking distance. This increases the importance of mixed-use buildings in today's office culture.

5. What kind of urban experience does a complex create? As seen in the Armada example, when the shopping mall-social area-plaza combination is designed correctly in a single structure: It creates a multifunctional life path for urban dwellers. It creates a center effect that adds value to the surrounding structures. Thanks to spatial diversity, users' motivation to return at different times of the day increases. For this reason, mixed-use projects are considered among the contemporary architectural solutions that meet both the social and commercial needs of today's urban life. Reflection of Architectural Integrity on Urban Life Armada complex is a well-constructed architectural language; It is an important example of how it brings together a wide range of experiences ranging from shopping to socializing, from working to relaxing. The harmony between functions directly contributes to strengthening the bond between users and the space and increasing the quality of life.
