WITH RESPECT TO ATATÜRK: THE FASCINATING ARCHITECTURAL LAYOUT OF ANITKABİR
Beyond being the eternal resting place of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Anıtkabir is a building that symbolizes the architectural stance of modern Turkey. The basic values of the Republic; It embodies the principles of simplicity, strength, unity and modernity. In this respect, Anıtkabir is not just a monument but a symbolic turning point of Turkish architecture.
ANITKABİR'S DESIGN PROCESS AND ARCHITECTS
As a result of the international competition opened in 1941, the architect of the project was Prof. It was undertaken by Emin Onat and Orhan Arda. The jury chose this design because the project offered “a simple yet impressive monumentality.” The architectural approach reflects the modest stance in Atatürk's character and the national power in a balanced way. The construction of Anıtkabir was completed in four stages between 1944 and 1953. The construction techniques used in this process constituted an important step in the development of modern architecture in Turkey.
ARCHITECTURAL LAYOUT AND SITE LAYOUT
Anıtkabir is located in Rasattepe, one of the highest points in Ankara. This dominance means "the summit of the Republic" both physically and symbolically. The building complex consists of two main parts: Peace Park and Memorial Block.
MONUMENT BLOCK AND SYMBOLIC DETAILS
Located in the center of the complex, the Mausoleum attracts attention with its simple geometric form and strong proportions. The reliefs and inscriptions on the facades tell about the Turkish nation's struggle for independence. The travertine and marble coverings used in the interior were created with stones brought from all over Anatolia, symbolizing the unity of the country. The Burial Room, located on the lower floor of the mausoleum, has a simpler architectural language. The golden mosaics and Seljuk patterns used here are the spatial equivalent of Atatürk's vision of "Westernization and loyalty to his roots".
ARCHITECTURAL LANGUAGE OF ANITKABİR
The architectural language of Anıtkabir combines the sense of proportion of Classical Turkish architecture with the simple lines of the modern period. This approach creates a cultural bridge between the past and the future. The principles of respect, balance and continuity are felt in every detail of the building, from the stone textures to the entry of light into the space.
ANITKABIR AND REPUBLICAN PERIOD ARCHITECTURE
Anıtkabir is one of the most characteristic examples of Republican Era Architecture. Modernism, national identity and monumental stance meet in a balanced way in this structure. Emin Onat and Orhan Arda's design is still examined as the "spatial representation of ideology" in architectural education today. Anıtkabir is not just an architectural structure; It is the spatial expression of deep respect and devotion to the founder of the Republic of Türkiye. This monument, which carries the values of the Republic to the present and the future, continues to live in the memory of the nation along with Atatürk's ideas.
