THE EFFECT OF MATERIAL SELECTION ON THE SENSE OF SPACE IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

THE EFFECT OF MATERIAL SELECTION ON THE SENSE OF SPACE IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

THE EFFECT OF MATERIAL SELECTION ON THE SENSE OF SPACE IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

As T-COD Architecture, this week we would like to talk to you about one of the most invisible but most “felt” aspects of the design process: Material Selection. Have you ever thought about how you feel when you enter a place? Temperature? Refreshment? Maybe a feeling of trust... A large part of these feelings are shaped by the language of the materials used in the space, even if we are not aware of it. Material selection in architectural design is not just a visual choice; It is a fundamental decision that directly affects the spirit of the place, its usage experience and perception. We evaluate this choice in every project as a sensory and functional strategy, not just an aesthetic one.

MATERIAL = FEELING: EVERY MATERIAL HAS A FEELING

Materials are not only building elements, but also tools that activate emotions. Each material creates a different feeling in the user: Wood: Warmth, naturalness, sincerity. Wooden surfaces create an emotional bond with the user. Concrete: Strong, modern, industrial. When used correctly, it creates character in contemporary architecture. Glass: Transparency, openness, spaciousness. Its relationship with light gives lightness to the space. Metal: Technological, sharp and refined. It often creates dynamism in modern offices. Stone: Permanence and sense of history. Natural stones create a feeling of weight, especially in prestigious projects. We carefully analyze the message of these materials in each project. Because in our opinion, every design is a form of communication, and the material is the silent but effective voice of that communication.

MATERIAL SELECTION IN COMMERCIAL SPACES: THE FIRST IMPRESSION NEVER MAKE A SECOND TIME

In commercial areas where user experience is at the forefront, such as clinics, stores or offices, material selection directly affects customer behavior. As T-COD Architecture, we aim to design not only functional but also emotionally effective spaces in these projects.

SUSTAINABILITY AND TIMELESS MATERIAL SELECTION

Today, material selection is not just a design decision; It is also an agreement with nature and future generations. With such choices, we both take an environmentally friendly approach and create timeless and long-lasting designs.

INTERACTION OF MATERIAL WITH LIGHT, SOUND AND USER

The material is not just the surface; At the same time, it offers a spatial experience by reflecting light, absorbing sound, and even by what it feels like when touched. All of these shape the livability and feel of a space. For us, material selection is not just a visual choice, it is a multi-sensory design tool.

As T-COD Architecture, we start every project with the following question: "How should this space make the user feel?" The answer to this question directs the entire design, from material selection to color palette, from light scheme to acoustic solutions. We choose materials not just because they look nice, but because they create the right feeling. Material selection is perhaps the quietest but most effective form of expression of architecture. It defines a space, makes it feel, and establishes an invisible bond with the user. And as T-COD Architecture, we attach great importance to this bond in all our design and application processes. It combines the feeling created by the material with the function of the space; We design spaces worth living, working and exploring.
